The ideal for cleaning the windows with a steam cleaner means taking down the curtains and remove the windows before starting. In cases of aluminum or PVC sliding windows, doing so is relatively easy: you just have to push one side of the window up and out, and then towards you to disengage them. If the window is old or made of wood, we do not recommend using the steam cleaner other than to clean the gaps in the window – which remain at the base of the frame – and in the glass. Do it very carefully.
The steamer shoots steam at a very high temperature and with force. It is necessary to take a precautionary distance so as not to damage the material against which we direct the steam. For older windows, the steam cleaner can easily chip the paint and damage the wood. So it is better not to use it unless you have a good command of this machine.
If you have removable windows, place them on the ground. But first, protect it with cardboard or large plastic bags so as not to get it dirty.
At FoxWiki we give you some keys so you know clean with a steam cleaner.
2
Put the curtains in the washing machine and wash them using a wool or cold water program to prevent shrinkage. You can also leave them in a basin and wash them by hand if the fabric is very delicate.
Use the steam cleaner to clean the edges and dirt of the window glass if something is embedded. Dilute half a cup of ammonia in a glass of water and moisten the newspaper in the mixture to give the crystals a perfect finish. With the damp cloth, clean the edges of the window and all its nooks. If they are very dirty you can use the ammonia mixture and they will be shiny.
3
Clean the blinds with the steam cleaner. To do this, lower the window blind, although not completely (let it be closed but not tight), and pass the steam cleaner from one side to the other, horizontally. Remember to maintain a distance of approximately 30-40cm and without keeping the steam fixed at the same point for too long, to ensure that you do not damage the material. The steam cleaner may splatter on the wall and window frame, so have the damp cloth (but no ammonia) on hand to clean immediately after they get dirty.
When you’re done, pass the cloth through the blinds to remove traces of water. Use the mixture with ammonia to ensure it is spotless. Then rinse the cloth, remove the remains of the product and dry with the cloth or kitchen paper.
4
Taking advantage of the fact that the window is disassembled, clean the part inside its frame with the steam cleaner. Use the cloth to remove the water and dry with a cloth or kitchen paper. Just cleaning the window frame on the outside with the steamer, if you can, or if not, wipe it with a cloth. Be careful about recklessly looking outside. Cleaning windows is something you should do slowly.
5
Reassemble the window, carefully. Clean the closures with the cloth and dry them with the cloth so that no space is left uncleaned. If there are gaps where it is very difficult to access, use a pen or screwdriver to wrap the cloth and reach all the gaps in the window in depth.
